Other Internships

In addition to the Washington Seminar program and the Utah State Legislature internship, there are other internships opportunities that may interest you.

Local internships.

Internships can be arranged throughout the year with state, county and city governments. Opportunities also exist with the state offices of U.S. senators and representatives. For students whose schedules or personal situations do not permit them to travel or work in an internship full-time, these experiences can be very rewarding. A student spending the summer at home, away from the campus, can likely arrange a good internship with a government entity or related organization near his or her home. Depending on the nature of the work and time spent in the internship, up to six hours of credit can be earned for the experience.

Campaign Internships.

A campaign internship can be a great way to learn about the electoral process. Most candidates are anxious to have students assist them with their campaign and will often give them very substantive assignments. Students who receive such assignments can earn three credits for the internship.

Scottish Parliament Internship

Individual internships are available in the Scottish Parliament as researchers and personal assistants to representatives in the Parliament. Responsibilities vary from preparing legislation to researching information for debate. Interns will attend committee meetings, debate sessions, and other events in Edinburgh. Students will be offered a range of projects according to interests and academic background, but all positions tend to involve the student closely with Scottish politics.
