Fall 2008 Program

By Dr. Robert Goss

A total of 39 BYU students completed Washington Seminar internships during fall 2008.  In keeping with past Washington Seminar interns, most students spoke a language other than English.  Languages spoken included French, German, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Mongolian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Tagalog, Turkish, as well as American Sign Language.

Eight students served in the offices of individual members of Congress, and three more served as staff for Senate or House Committees.  Five served with the staff agency for the federal judiciary.  And six served in executive branch agencies including the Departments of Homeland Security and State, and the Central Intelligence Agency, Voice of America, and National Defense University.  One helped staff the Domestic Policy Council in the White House.  Two worked in embassies.  Additional others served in think tanks, membership organizations headquartered in the nation’s capital, and in several for-profit and nonprofit originations involved in both domestic and international work of various kinds.
